In 1920 someone built this house at the exact point where Cartagena intersects with itself: the corner where Calle del Carmen ends in Santa Florentina, in front of the Palacio Pedreño and two steps from the Plaza de San Sebastián. More than a century later, the calculation is still correct.
First floor, five Cartagena balconies to the street, with its cast railings and intact hydraulic floor. The precise height: the one that allows you to look without being part of the tumult and, at the same time, hear how the wood of a throne creaks as it passes. When Holy Week, of International Tourist Interest since 2005, goes down the Carmen and turns towards Santa Florentina, it does so under these railings. That night the house ceases to be a dwelling and becomes what it always was in this city: the place where people who matter meet. Five boxes, and the guest list is decided by one.
Inside, the reform has done the hard thing, which is to respect. High ceilings with their plaster rose window, wooden carpentry overlooking the street. On that basis, everything a family needs today without asking permission from the past: living room with kitchen open to the life of the house, bright bedrooms, full bathroom, separate laundry room and air conditioning in each room.
Outside, the street is pedestrianized and is the entire city: the usual commerce, the terraces, the Captaincy, the port just a stroll away. You don't need a car because you don't need to go anywhere.
Renovated apartments in the center there are, but like this two or three.
