What it is like to live in La Alameda
The Alameda de San Antón is one of Cartagena's main arteries and acts as the hinge between El Ensanche and San Antonio Abad. It goes back a long way: a royal decree of 1591 ordered trees to be planted along the roads out of the city, and the avenue grew from there.
Today Modernist buildings, such as Víctor Beltrí's Casa Zapata (1910) and Pedro Cerdán's former Red Cross hospital, stand alongside large mid-20th-century blocks of flats and newer ones. Living here means having the centre a stroll away and the boulevard right below your window.
