Barrio Peral is named after Isaac Peral, the Cartagena naval officer who designed the submarine that also bears his name, and his monument presides over Plaza de Sánchez Doménech. Before it took his name, the area was known as Los Molinos.
It is a neighbourhood with plenty of street life: 1960s and 70s blocks, low houses and newer buildings. It has its own greenway, a tree-lined path for walking or running without leaving the neighbourhood, and historic buildings such as Villa Carmen.
