What it is like to live in Los Dolores
Los Dolores lies about three kilometres north of the centre and grew up along the old Madrid road, for years the main way into Cartagena. Well-off families settled here at the end of the 19th century, and mansions from that time survive, such as El Castillito, from 1899, or Torre Llagostera in the Huerto de las Bolas.
Today it is a large neighbourhood with a life of its own: one- and two-storey houses, newer blocks, long-standing local shops and its church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, which began as a hermitage at the end of the 18th century.
