What it is like to live in Los Barreros
In the early decades of the 20th century several "hoteles" were built around here, as villas on the outskirts of the city were called at the time. Villa Asunción (1926), by Víctor Beltrí, still stands in the neighbourhood, and just across the Vereda de San Félix are Hotel Torre José and Villa Carmina.
Today it is a neighbourhood of about 7,400 people that has kept on growing, with blocks of flats, houses with patios and a proper neighbourhood life around the church of San Francisco Javier. The Hospital de la Caridad, an institution founded in 1693, also has its premises here.
Historic villas
Villa Asunción, by Víctor Beltrí, and nearby Torre José and Villa Carmina recall the days when this was the edge of the city.
Antoñares park
With its windmill, built in 1997 with the help of the residents themselves.
